SoundCloud was established in August 2007 in Berlin, Germany by two men – sound designer Alex Ljung and artist Eric Wahlforss. The primary intention of the website is to provide a platform for musicians to upload and share recordings of original music. Before the advent of SoundCloud, musicians used MySpace as their tool of choice to share music. However SoundCloud gave musicians the freedom to have their music readily available and easy to share on social media websites, making it the number one choice for musicians to social network. SoundCloud also made it possible to embed audio media onto any website, which makes it easier to reach a greater number of audience and build a fan based community.

You can also check soundcloud djs chart, where djs are ranked by number of their followers: souncloud chart

SoundCloud offers a free basic membership. With the free membership you’ll be able to create a widget, take advantage of secret link sharing, and have 120 upload minutes. However for those musicians who likes to have a few bells and whistles with their membership, they can choose from four other options. The Lite membership offers 2 widgets, a spotlight tab, and 240 upload minutes for €29 per year ($37 dollars per year). This option is perfect for musicians that are serious about their music but are just getting started and need to keep their cost to a minimum. The Solo, Pro, and Plus packages offer a wide range of options. Costs range from €79 per year ($103 dollars per year) for the Solo package to €500 per year ($652 dollars per year) for the Plus package. These packages may be pricier but offer more options such as unlimited downloads, pro support, ability to create groups, web statistics, and unrestricted storage limits.

Musicians may be worried about copyright laws and terms of service when sharing their works of art. SoundCloud offers six different creative common licenses as well as a copyright checklist. The creative commons licenses allow musicians the ability to retain exclusive rights while having the choice to give up other rights. SoundCloud makes it clear in the Terms of Service that they do not hold ownership to any uploaded content from a SoundCloud member. As with any website that hosts original creative content, copyright infringement is taken seriously. SoundCloud makes reporting and disputing copyright infringement easy by email or mail. Whether your an amature musician or a serious contender in the music world, SoundCloud offers a membership package just right for you. With its ease of use and wide range of social media options you’ll soon be able to build your fan-ship with SoundCloud.

One of the most popular types of music in modern society is electronic music. This type of music consists of rhythms and beats produced by a computer that are modified, mixed, and warped by a person known as a disk jockey, or DJ for short. These DJ’s use various equipment, including turn tables to play records, mixers to mix different sources of music, trigger pads to play various noises and sound effects, and computers to access a vast library of music and sound effects. Most DJ’s now use just computers, because of their capabilities in handling all of the aforementioned tasks. Compared to early equipment used by DJ’s in the 90s or 80s, computer electronic DJ’s have never had it easier, when looking at price, available equipment-in their case, software-and ease of use.

The term Disk jockey was not invented until around the 1940s, when Jimmy Savile played Jazz to his guests at a party. A few years later, Jimmy Savile was also the first person to use turntables to keep music continuously playing. In this sense, he can be thought of as the father of electronic disk jockeys and their use of turn tables. DJ’s picked up more momentum in the 1950s, with the advent and widespread adoption of radio. Interestingly, electronic disk jockeys would appear at sock hops in this era, and provide music for the event. Also during this time, in Jamaica, people calling themselves DJ’s would blast music outdoors for dance parties and street parties. These could be thought of as the first concerts for these electronic disk jockeys. In the 60s and 70s, with the invention of disco, electronic DJs became more electronic than their predecessors, and could now use more advances in technology than ever before. They could mix tapes so they would seamlessly play the next track or even next tape, ensuring a never ending supply of music.

The 1970s also saw a big jump in electronic DJs, when a DJ called Grand Wizard Theodore accidently invented scratching, a technique still very popular today, even with entirely digital DJs. This effect can be mimicked through digital means, and is still considered the trademark of the DJ. Another trademark of the DJ is more modern, and is the smashup. Here the DJ takes old songs, and combines them in new interesting ways. A good example is a fast techno song and classic oldie song.
